Real News

Joe Kent Out as Director NCTC

Joe Kent, Director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), resigned on March 17, 2026 in protest of the ongoing U.S. war with Iran.

In his public resignation letter posted on X, Kent stated that he "cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran," asserting that Iran posed no imminent threat to the U.S. and that the conflict began due to "pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby." He accused foreign officials and media of a "misinformation campaign" pushing for war and urged Trump to reverse course to avoid unnecessary American sacrifices.

President Trump dismissed Kent as "weak on security," while other administration officials, like Karoline Leavitt, also dismissed Kent’s claims. Senator Mitch McConnell condemned the letter's claims as anti-Semitic conspiracies. The resignation has fueled debate, with some viewing it as principled and others as politically timed amid upcoming intelligence hearings.

Timeless Truth

We should agree with Mr. Kent that our leaders should always count the costs of war before getting involved in one, this is not only wise but the necessary and biblical thing to do. Luke 14:31-32 says “Or what king, going out to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and deliberate whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? And if not… he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace.”

However, if the government does not exercise its right and duty to punish evil, then they violate their biblical command in Romans 13. Governments are designed to punish evil, whether preemptively or on demand, because isolationism only allows threats to grow (James 4:17, Ezekiel 33:6, & Isaiah 1:17).

We must pray for the true peace of Jesus Christ to reign supreme in a world at war (John 14:27). We must pray that our leaders would operate in true wisdom that comes from God and not of the wisdom of this world (James 3:17 & 1 Corinthians 3:19). We must pray that our government would be filled with righteous leaders who are concerned with what is best for their nation (Proverbs 29:2).

Prairieland Terrorism Trial

On July 4, 2025, a group in tactical gear protested outside Prairieland ICE Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas, throwing fireworks, vandalizing property, and carrying weapons. When police Lt. Thomas Gross responded to a 911 call, gunfire from Benjamin Song wounded him in the neck. Prosecutors called it premeditated domestic terrorism by a North Texas "Antifa cell."

On March 13, 2026, a Fort Worth federal jury convicted all nine defendants. Song was convicted for attempted murder, firearms charges, rioting, material support to terrorists, and explosives conspiracy, the other eight on rioting, material support to terrorists, explosives counts, and obstruction.

This marks a landmark application of terrorism statutes to alleged antifa-linked actions under the Trump administration's designation. Defendants face up to 15+ years, with sentencing pending.

Timeless Truth

1 Peter 2:13-14 says “Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good.” Peter instructs us to submit to our authorities. The time for civil disobedience comes only when man-made law goes against or infringes upon the Word of God (Acts 5:29).

But, even when the institutions of man fail to bring about true justice and righteousness (Proverbs 11:1 & Proverbs 21:15), we must remember that our hope lies in God. He will bring about true justice and will make all things right (Psalm 118:8 & Revelation 19:2).

We must pray that true justice would be done in this case (Revelation 16:5-7). We must pray that lawlessness would cease in our nation (1 John 3:4). We must pray that all people who engage in lawlessness and sin would come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior (Titus 2:11-14).

Cuba’s Blackouts Spark Protests

On March 16, 2026, Cuba’s aging electrical grid suffered a total collapse, plunging all 10+ million residents into a nationwide blackout, the third major outage in about four months. No oil imports have arrived since early January due to intensified U.S. sanctions and a blockade targeting Venezuela's shipments, starving power plants of fuel.

This has worsened shortages, sparking rare protests and unrest. President Trump, called Cuba a "failed nation," and said that it would be an "honor" to "take" or "free" it, while Secretary Rubio demanded "new people in charge" and regime change. Ongoing U.S.-Cuba talks reportedly include demands to oust President Díaz-Canel.

Timeless Truth

Proverbs 29:2 says, “When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, the people groan.” The failing of their power grid is the direct fault of the Cuban leadership, who have chosen to enrich themselves over taking care of the needs of their citizens (Proverbs 28:27).

Situations like this should remind us that corruption and oppression is the norm in an evil and fallen world (Ecclesiastes 5:8), however God promises that He will be our fortress, our refuge (Psalm 91:2), and that He will be the one who will brings true Justice - whether that be on Earth or in Heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:17, Romans 2:5-6 & Acts 17:31).

We must pray for the people of Cuba, that although they live under this oppressive regime that they would remember that God is in control of all things, including their leadership (Romans 13:1 and Daniel 2:21). We must pray that, for the people of Cuba’s sake, the infrastructure issues would be quickly resolved. We must pray that the Cuban people and leadership would humble themselves before God and ask for His help in this time (James 4:10).

Behind the Feed

In 1 Kings 18 & 19, Elijah finds out that sometimes the most productive thing you can do, is rest.

1 Kings 19:4-8 describes how Elijah was so worn out that he “prayed that he might die. ‘I have had enough, Lord,’ he said. ‘Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.’” However the Lord ignored this request and gave Elijah food and rest, as He knew Elijah was simply exhausted.

It was only after Elijah rested and allowed the Lord to replenish his strength, that the Lord gave him his mission (1 Kings 19:15).

The Lord knew that Elijah was worn out after fighting the prophets of Baal, and that even as he ran away from Jezebel, it wasn’t solely out of fear - but because Elijah had nothing left to give. 1 Peter 5:9-10 tells us that after resisting the devil and suffering for a short season, God “will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.”

God never designed you to run on empty. But He does promise that He will not only supply your needs but “will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.”

Final Exhortation

Although the world is at war, take heart. We are only inching nearer to the return of the Lord. Matthew 24:6-8 says “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation… All these are but the beginning of the birth pains.” The ongoing conflicts should not cause us to focus on our fear or worry, but should be great reminders that the coming day of the Lord is near!

Father, I thank you for this week. I ask Lord that you would guard our hearts and minds with your peace and assurance, so that we do not fear. I thank you, Father, for your promise that when we are weary and tired of fighting that you will “restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish” us. You are the God of all and no one compares to you. May we continue to honor you in all that we do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
